2010 Events

5.07.2010   Join CPPPS at its annual spring fundraiser: Building Tomorrow’s Leaders, featuring special guest, current MSNBC commentator and former Senior White House correspondent for Newsweek, Richard Wolffe.

CSPC will serve as the student volunteer arm of CPPPS, and will engage students in workshops, forums, special events, communications with elected officials, politically themed field trips, Congressional Internship programs, and political campaigns. 4.30.2010   10 am - 2 pm, St. Edwards University
Immigration, Education and Our Future: "A Dream On Hold."

This one-day conference, co-sponsored by the ACC Center for Public Policy & Political Studies, the ACC Latina/Latino American Studies Center, the ACC Office of Student Success, and the Department of Education at St. Edwards, includes presentations by scholars and prominent Senat & Lesislative officials who will discuss the status and impact of topic-related immigration public policy.  In response to the ongoing, and often heated, debate abotu immigration policies int he U.S., this program is targeted around immigration policies and their impact on the Central Texas community.

The conference will feature presentation by nationally known scholars and top Federal & State elected officials on the status and impact of immigration-related public policy, as well as facilitator-led discussions among conference attendees on the impact of immigration policy that limits career success in spite of educational access by undocumented residents.

Earth Day Summit

On Thursday, Aprill 22, 2010, ACC's Center for Public Policy (CPPPS), the Center for Student Political Studies (CSPS) club, and staff/faculty at ACC will host a discussion/debate about issues affecting our planet.  Expert testimony will be provided.

Economics Forum - "How to Fix the Economy"

On Wednesday, March 10, 2010, ACC's Center for Public Policy (CPPPS), the Center for Student Political Studies (CSPS) club, and staff/faculty at ACC are going to fix the economy.  We aren't quite sure how yet, so stay tuned for more programming information.  But won't you be glad when we get that off our to do list?

Student Mock Congressional Hearing

On Saturday February 13, 2010, ACC's Center for Public Policy (CPPPS) and the Center for Student Political Studies (CSPS) club, the Vice Provost and UT School of Law - Professor Dr. William Sage, Professor Emeritus LBJ School of Public Affairs and Former U.S. Secretary of Labor - Dr. Ray Marshall, ACC Professor of History - Dr. David M. Lauderback, the National Nurses Organizing Committee, and students from ACC and UT are hosting a Mock Congressional Hearing on three aspects of the pending healthcare reform legislation in Washington.  The three issues to be addressed are:

Primary Care Expansion
Patient Safety/Hospital Staffing, and
Healthcare for the Uninsured and the Underinsured

ACC and UT students will fill the roles of Democratic and Republican members of Congress.  Experty testimony on both sides of the issue will be presented.

Locations: House Appropriation Committee Room at the State Capitol Capitol Extension room E1.030, 11th and Congress
